Abortion Habitual

What is Abortion Habitual or Habitual Abortion?

Habitual abortion occurs when miscarriage happens repeatedly during pregnancy. And infertility is a form of habitual abortion. Chromosome abnormalities or other genetic problems are one of the main problems causing habitual abortion. If this has occurred two or more times repeatedly, this condition is said to be the instance of habitual abortion. And this is one of the leading issues in the field of gynaecology and one of the top issues leading to increased maternal mortality.



Causes of Habitual Abortion
Now, let us try and understand the causes of habitual abortion. According to research, there are multiple problems leading to this health condition, namely- congenital malformation of the uterus. This is a type of malformation of female genital wherein there is an abnormal growth of the Mullerian duct during embryogenesis.  The next cause leading to the condition of habitual abortion would be scarce functioning of thyroid. Hypertension, chronic nephritis and diabetes are also leading causes to this health condition resulting in major problems and even leading on to maternal mortality.

Faulty implantation of fertilized ovum not only leads to habitual abortion but may even cause life threatening problems for the mother’s health. Chronic constipation and syphilis infections can also cause this condition. Additionally, fibroid tumours and blood group incompatibility of husband and wife are all leading causes of this case of habitual abortion. Another most important risk factor of habitual abortion is the condition commonly known as Hyperhomocysteinemia. This is a condition wherein there are abnormally high levels of homocysteine in the blood. This can cause cardiovascular risks, problems to the bone health, neuropsychiatric illnesses etc.


Symptoms of Habitual Abortion
To identify if the mother has the condition of habitual abortion, there are two main symptoms. These symptoms are identified as vaginal bleeding during pregnancy and pains and cramps of the same type as during labour time (aka labour pains).

Pelvic examination is a great way to identify any problems or dangers posing as a threat either to the baby or to the mother. Pap test is the most famous one done for pregnant mothers. This is also done to diagnose any vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections. And this mainly helps find vaginal bleeding. Lab tests such as pelvic examination helps determines the uterus size and whether this size is consistent with the pregnancy’s length. And tissue histology shows evidence of products of conception. Lab tests show reduced haemoglobin levels and haematocrit due to blood loss.

Prevention and precaution of Habitual Abortion
Precautions and preventions that can be taken to prevent habitual abortion include: avoidance of alcohol intake, avoid smoking cigarettes and tobacco products, consume well-balanced meals and exercise regularly, follow suggested medical advice carefully, and the most important of all, avoid the usage of non-prescription drugs without therapeutic advice.

Treatment of Habitual Abortion
