Antiphospholipid Syndrome

What is antiphospholipid syndrome?
This is a syndrome that results from your immune system attacking normal blood proteins. This causes blood clots in the veins and arteries. It is detrimental if you are pregnant as it can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths. If you get clotted veins in the legs, you can develop conditions known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) clots in vital organs is chronic as it can cause a stroke or other chronic diseases.

What are the common signs and symptoms of Antiphospholipid syndrome?
You may be suffering from Antiphospholipid syndrome if you exhibit the following signs and symptoms.

If you develop deep vein thrombosis, you could be having the Antiphospholipid syndrome. This leads to blood clots traveling up your lungs causing pulmonary embolism. If you also have recurring miscarriages and stillbirths, you have reason to be worried as you might be suffering from the Antiphospholipid syndrome, you might also have other pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia and premature delivery.

You may also suffer a stroke if you have the antiphospholipid syndrome. It can occur even if you are in the younger age bracket. You may also have the transitory ischemic attack which will last for a few minutes and has no long-term effects. Developing a rash having a net-like lacy pattern with a lot of redness may also indicate that you are suffering from the antiphospholipid syndrome.
Other signs and symptoms that are less common include; having a blood clot blocking blood flow to the brain and thus leading to migraines, seizures, and even dementia. A cardiovascular disease could also be as a result of the antiphospholipid syndrome since it could lead to damage to the cardiovascular muscles and the valves of the heart. You may also notice that your wounds are taking longer to scab as the blood does not clot easily. This condition is known as thrombocytopenia (production of insufficient platelets for clotting). It could be an indicator that you are suffering from the antiphospholipid syndrome. You may have patches red in color on your skin if you have the thrombocytopenia.

If you have the antiphospholipid syndrome, you will notice an unusual blood clotting pattern as your body produces antibodies that attack your phospholipids which are essential in the process of blood clotting. This is unusual since the antibodies are supposed to protect your body from virus attacks. You may be having antiphospholipid antibodies but they only pose a threat if you are diagnosed with the antiphospholipid syndrome. If you have an existing autoimmune disease, or a disorder or even some medication, they can lead to the development of antiphospholipid syndrome symptoms.

Risk factors that are associated with antiphospholipid syndrome.

Like any other disorder, the antiphospholipid syndrome has certain risk factors that heighten your chances of developing it. They include; having an existing autoimmune disease certainly raises your chances of developing the antiphospholipid syndrome. Such autoimmune diseases include Sjogren's syndrome. If you also have other diseases such as HIV/AIDS, syphilis or Lyme's disease which are mostly viral diseases, increases your risk of getting the syndrome. Medications such as hypertension management medication or heartbeat regulation, or seizure medication and amoxicillin could definitely place you at a higher risk of developing the antiphospholipid syndrome. If you also a family history of this syndrome, your chances of getting it are also higher.

If you have the antiphospholipid antibodies, they will increase your risk of developing the disease especially if you become pregnant, if you have been having bed rest, if you have had surgery, or you have a tendency of smoking. If you have high cholesterol levels or have been taking oral contraceptives and estrogen therapy due to menopause, these will likely increase your risk of developing the disease.

Some complications associated with antiphospholipid syndrome.
Complications are dependent on where the blood clots appear. They include; having a stroke, failure of one or both kidneys, heart problems, lung complications and, pregnancy complications like miscarriages.

Diagnosis and prognosis of Antiphospholipid syndrome.
Your doctor may recommend blood tests to check for clotting that is abnormal and for antiphospholipid antibodies. This will be done if you have had episodes of thrombosis, miscarriage or stillbirth. If you undergo a blood test to confirm if you are suffering from the antiphospholipid syndrome, these antibodies will show twice in tests done in a span of twelve weeks apart.

Treatment and management of Antiphospholipid syndrome.
You may need to undergo different treatment processes depending on the symptoms you show. Mostly you will be given prescription medicine to help in reducing blood clots to prevent further complications of this syndrome.

The initial medication you will get is blood-thinning medications to help treat thrombosis. You will need an injection of heparin which thins your blood accompanied by oral medication for the same purpose. You may also be given aspirin to help manage your symptoms. However, these blood-thinning medicines will amplify your hemorrhage episodes.

If you are expectant, blood-thinning medication may prevent clotting of your blood and may help you carry your pregnancy up to term. Heparin is a safe option to take during pregnancy since it poses no risk to the unborn child. Heparin will be complemented with aspirin to help manage the pregnancy to term.

Homeopathic treatment will help improve your body’s immune system by setting your blood clotting back to normal functioning. You will be treated in a holistic manner helping your body regulate its normal energy levels. You may be given medications such as Cham, China, croc s, and ipecac to aid in further managing this syndrome.

In conventional or allopathic treatment mainly constitutes of prescription medicine. These medications are namely; heparin, aspirin, and warfarin. Changes in diet definitely help in the treatment of the antiphospholipid syndrome. Incorporation of herbs into your diet will certainly take you miles on the recovery journey. If you avoid the consumption of alcohol, cranberry juice, large helpings of spinach, parsley, kale, green mustards, collard greens and lastly Brussels’ sprout, you will have lessened the symptoms of the antiphospholipid syndrome.

Anxiety

What is Anxiety
There are many conditions or disorders which are referred to as anxiety and these disorders usually cause fear, nervousness, worrying, and apprehension. A person as a whole is affected by anxiety. These disorders affect the way a person behaves and feels, and these disorders further paves the way to bigger and severe diseases. Anxiety becomes a major problem when a person lacks sleep and don’t perform other functions. In simple terms, anxiety happens when a response does not match with the normally expected reaction in a situation. Mild anxiety is unsettling and vague whereas severe anxiety can be very deliberating and it seriously impacts daily life.

Symptoms of Anxiety
Anxiety can be identified from various symptoms. A person during anxiety might feel tingling in feet or hands, and weakness in arms. The person may sweat, shake, shiver, feel headache or get sore eyes. Pale skin or rashes on the skin also indicates anxiety. The stomach related problems such as heartburn, indigestion, diarrhea and constipation occur. Anxiety in a person sometimes cause pain in face, jaw or chest. The sensitivity to light, smell, touch and sound increases. The infection of urinary tract or flu can’t be overruled. Sometimes there exists a lump in throat and the person feels difficulty in swallowing. During anxiety, sexual feelings of some people dramatically increase.

Causes of Anxiety
There are several reasons which can cause anxiety. Different stressful events like abuse, death of a loved one, changing schools or jobs, divorce, etc. might lead to anxiety. When a person consumes caffeine, nicotine and alcohol, the result can be anxiety. Anxiety also has direct relation to genetics or family history. When some neurotransmitters of brain reach abnormal levels, the result is anxiety.

Risk factors of Anxiety
Anxiety may result in medical problems like adrenal, thyroid, migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea, and premenstrual syndrome. The children who are quiet or remain bully’s target are most likely to develop anxiety related disorders in future. As compared to men, women are two times at the risk of anxiety. There are some foods which are highly acidic and extra consumption of such foods should be avoided by people suffering from anxiety disorder. Anxiety leads to nutritional deficiency of magnesium and vitamin B’s. Anxiety leads to depression.

Complications of Anxiety
There can be both mental as well as physical complications because of anxiety. The most common complication which happens because of anxiety is substance abuse. A person with anxiety disorder finds it difficult to sleep. He/she might fall in depression. Anxiety in a person can initiate continuous headaches, teeth grinding, and bowel or digestive problems.

Diagnosis of Anxiety
The diagnosis of anxiety includes evaluation by a doctor. The doctor will ask you questions related to the symptoms you have, your and your family’s medical history, and then he/she will perform a physical exam. There are no pathological tests to diagnose anxiety but the doctor may ask you to undergo various tests just to make sure that any major problem isn’t rooting in the body. So, if after the tests, no base of any illness is found, your doctor may refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist or even to a mental health professional who holds special training for diagnosing and treating mental illnesses.

Precautions and Prevention of Anxiety
Practicing healthy eating habits and doing relaxation exercises like deep breathing helps to prevent anxiety. Change of irrational beliefs and ideas, and avoiding cigarette, illicit drugs, caffeine and alcohol will keep you away from anxiety. Another preventive measure is visualization and meditation.

Treatment of Anxiety

Homeopathic Treatment of Anxiety
A natural and safe anti-anxiety treatment is what homeopathy offers. When it comes to treating anxiety, homeopathic treatment is nothing less than the prescribed medicines. Through homeopathy, complete mind, soul and body align together to heal the most complex problems which drives anxiety. Some of the commonly used homeopathic medicines which treats anxiety are Aconite, Kali P, Calcarea C, Arsenicum alb, Pulsatilla, Natrum M, and Silicea.

Acupuncture and Acupressure Treatment of Anxiety
Acupuncture is yet another effective therapy to treat anxiety disorder. Anxiety affects underlying energetic spheres and acupuncture provides them support. Thus, the effects or causes of stress are resolved by this form of treatment. During the acupuncture treatment, preciseness holds the most value and hence, the root causes of mental or emotional imbalance are eliminated with it. The muscular tension is released and blood flows effectively. The nerve impulses are effectively directed to the affected region and as a result, stress is decreased.

Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Treatment of Anxiety
Cognitive-behavioral therapy or commonly known as Psychotherapy is a proven effective way to treat anxiety disorder. In this therapy, the affected person is informed by the therapist about the type of his/her specific anxiety disorder. Then the person is helped by therapist to challenge anxiety leading irrational thoughts. During hypnotherapy, the work is done on subconscious mind and anxiety causing factors are removed. The mind becomes stable and calm.

Allopathic/Conventional Treatment of Anxiety

In Anxiety’s allopathic treatment, the behavioral/cognitive therapy is used. But the actual allopathic treatment involves the medicines prescribed by doctor. You will be given medicines such as antidepressant, anixolytics (anti-anxiety agents), anticonvulsants, stimulants, and other mind-changing (psychotropic) medicines.

Surgical Treatment of Anxiety

Some of the severe Anxiety cases like OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), an alternate treatment is considered and it is known as psychosurgery. In this disorder, an increase is seen in the activity of neuronal circuit which runs from front context to cingulate gyrus, globus pallidus, striatum, thalamus, and again back to frontal cortex. This loop’s surgical interruption by cingulotomy at anterior cingulate cortex disrupts transmission from front cortex and the symptoms of OCD are reduced.

Dietary and Herbal Treatment of Anxiety
Anxiety can be helped with intake of proper diet. The minerals and vitamins rich diet should be taken. Fresh fruits and vegetables like cauliflower, tomato and spinach helps. Another beneficial step is elimination of protein like meats, nuts and dairy products. Consumption of alcohol should be avoided and a lot of water should be drunk.

Other Treatment of Anxiety
Yoga is a powerful tool to reduce and prevent excessive anxiety states. Regular practice of Yoga results in reducing tension, stress, frustration and anxiety.

Antisocial Personality Disorder

What is Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial personality disorder is also called as sociopathy. It is a psychological (mental) condition where a person shows no concern for any wrong or right and that person also ignores the feelings and rights of others. People who are affected with antisocial personality disorder are prone to treat, antagonize or manipulate others harshly. They have no regrets or show no guilt for their behavior.
The individuals with this disorder are more often found violating the law. A violent or impulsive behavior from them should never be a surprise. They might lie and may be involved in self abusing activities like drinking alcohol or consuming drugs. All these characteristics don’t let the affected person fulfill responsibilities related to school, family and work. In this disorder, the person’s way to think, perceive situations and relations to other people or things are destructive and abnormal.

Symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder
The antisocial personality disorder in a person can be determined from various symptoms. He/she may not be concerned about right or wrong. In an affected person, deceit or persistent lying for the exploitation of others is a normal thing. They are usually callous, cynical and shows disrespect towards others. They are arrogant, holds sense of superiority, remain extremely opinionated and uses wit or charm to manipulate others for their own pleasure or gain. If some person repeatedly violates others’ rights through dishonesty, have criminal behavior or have recurring problems with the law, then that person might be affected with antisocial personality disorder.

Such persons have impulsiveness and fails to plan ahead and are hostile, significantly irritable, aggressive and violent. For others, they lack empathy and they don’t think twice before harming others. They always remain occupied with dangerous or unnecessary risk-taking behavior without considering their or others’ safety. The people with antisocial personality disorder have abusive or poor relationships. These people fail to consider or learn from the negative consequences of behavior. They are constantly irresponsible and repeatedly fails to fulfill financial obligations or work duties.

Causes of Antisocial Personality Disorder
The personality of a person is the combination of emotions, thoughts and behaviors and this makes each person unique. It is the way people understand, view and relate themselves to the outside world, and how they see themselves. The personality of a person forms during childhood and gets a shape through the environmental factors and interaction of inherited tendencies. Although, the exact causes of antisocial personality disorder are not known but genes are somewhat responsible for this disorder and the situations in life may spark its development.

Risk factors of Antisocial Personality Disorder
There are certain factors which can increase the risks for developing antisocial personality disorder. One of the biggest risk factor is family history of some sort of personality disorder, mental illness or antisocial personality disorder. This disorder may lead to unstable life during childhood and the child may be neglected or abused. This may lead to violent, chaotic or unstable family life throughout childhood. Studies shows that women are at a lesser risk of having this disorder in comparison to men.

Complications of Antisocial Personality Disorder

The antisocial personality disorder may bring many complications or problems in different abusive forms such as child abuse, spouse abuse, and alcohol or substance abuse. The person may develop suicidal or homicidal behavior and the more chances are of developing anxiety, depression or mental health disorders. With this disorder, a person experiences homelessness, and low economic as well as social status. In worse cases, this disorder leads to death because of violence.

The right time to see a doctor
It is seen that people who have antisocial personality disorder usually seek the help only after their loved ones ask them again and again for it. If you suspect that any of your family member or friend have this disorder, it would be wise to gently suggest that person to seek medical attention. He/she might begin by visiting a primary care physician or some renowned mental health care professional.

Diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder
This disorder is diagnosed first by physically examining the suspected person. Then to confirm, some tests like CBC (Complete Blood Count), screening for drugs and alcohols, Thyroid functioning, are done. Another important procedure for diagnosing this disorder is psychological evaluation.

Precautions and Prevention of Antisocial Personality Disorder
Those who are at risk for developing antisocial personality disorder can’t be prevented from developing it. This is because the roots of antisocial behavior are related to that person’s childhood. Teachers, parents and pediatricians might spot the early warning signs and this further helps to identify the children at most risk. Then, early intervention can be started.
The early treatments including appropriate and effective discipline, behavior modification lessons, problem-solving and social skills, family therapy, parent training, and psychotherapy are found to be helpful in reducing the chances which leads at-risk children to develop as adults with antisocial personality disorder.

Treatment of Antisocial Personality Disorder

Homeopathic Treatment of Antisocial Personality Disorder
The homeopathic medicines used to treat antisocial personality disorder shrink dissatisfaction, hatred, shame, anger, guilt, dubiousness, fear, jealousy and other types of negative emotions. These medicines help by developing a correct sense of wrong and right which further helps the affected person to live a normal life. Some commonly used homeopathic medicines to treat antisocial personality disorder are Cham, Anac, Hyos and Lycop.

Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Treatment of Antisocial Personality Disorder
With the psychotherapy treatment of this disorder, a person is helped by uncovering negative, unhealthy beliefs and behaviors and gets them replaced with positive and healthy ones. A person is taught about the different facets of a condition, including problem solving skills, coping strategies and treatments. The hypnotherapy gives extraordinary response through retentive subconscious mind and by reducing aggression and impulsiveness.

Allopathic/Conventional Treatment of Antisocial Personality Disorder
In allopathic treatment of antisocial personality disorder, the affected person is given antidepressant and anti-anxiety medications. The doctors also refer antipsychotic and mood-stabilizing medications. The notable thing is that there are no medications approved specifically by FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for treating Antisocial Personality Disorder.

Antibiotic associated diarrhea

What is antibiotic associated diarrhea
Antibiotic-associated diarrhea is a side effect that results from taking medication used to treat bacterial infections also known as antibiotics. You may find yourself passing loose, watery stools consistently after taking antibiotic medication.
In most cases, diarrhea requires no treatment as it is mild and it clears up in a few days after you finish the medication but a serious case of antibiotic-associated diarrhea may require you to stop or change medication.

Symptoms of antibiotic associated diarrhea

Antibiotic-associated diarrhea might begin about a week or so after you start taking an antibiotic. You will experience mild symptoms like recurrent bowel movements that may cause abdominal pains, nausea and loose stool. Other manifestations of antibiotic-associated bacteria that are less common may include, mild fevers, complete loss of appetite and cramping. However, some symptoms don't appear until after you have finished antibiotic treatment.

Causes of antibiotic associated diarrhea

What causes antibiotic-related diarrhea, you may ask? Well, it is caused by changes in the composition and function of the intestinal flora. Bacteria that are toxin producing upsets the ratio of good to bad bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. The pathogen may also cause antibiotic-associated colitis, an inflammation of the large intestine caused by Clostridium difficile infection that results in excessive diarrhea which normally occurs after the antibiotic therapy. Taking multiple antibiotic medications can also lead to severe cases of antibiotic-associated bacteria. For instance, taking Cephalosporin’s, such as Suprax and Penicillin’s, such as amoxicillin. Combinations of the two types of medication may lead to inflammation of the bowel.

Risk factors for antibiotic associated diarrhea
Like any other disorder, antibiotic-associated diarrhea it definitely has risk factors that increase your chances of developing it. They include advanced ages of 65 years and above which is 50 to 100 times more than that of a teenager or a young adult, previous surgical operations on your intestinal tract and having previously experienced antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Having been previously hospitalized is also a risk factor that might lead to you suffering from the disorder. This is due to the antibiotic treatment that is administered to patients in hospitals. In comparison to a study conducted in Sweden, bacterial colonization of hospitalized adults was 20 to 30 percent more than that of outpatients which were only at 3 percent.

Complications of antibiotic associated diarrhea
The most common complication of antibiotic-associated diarrhea or any other form of diarrhea is dehydration. It is advisable for you to take lots of fluids especially water to compensate for the loss of electrolytes. Severe dehydration is life-threatening and can be fatal. Symptoms of dehydration include intense thirst, a dry mouth and to feel general body sluggishness.
Other complications include bowel perforation which can be repaired surgically and a toxic megacolon that is accompanied by paralysis of the peristaltic movements of the bowel that enable you to defecate.

Diagnosis of antibiotic associated diarrhea

Diagnosing of Antibiotic-associated diarrhea involves conducting a series of tests like abdominal radiography and endoscopy to detect the presence of toxins produced by the bacteria in the abdomen.
Diagnosis is also made by analyzing stool samples. This approach is advantageous because it yields a higher degree of accuracy if it’s conducted correctly. However, you have to wait for two to four days for the results. It is advisable for you to have more than one stool specimen tested as this increases the diagnostic yield.

Precautions & Prevention of antibiotic associated diarrhea
The best precaution for you to take to minimize chances of antibiotic-associated diarrhea is to avoid antibiotics or to limit their use unless your doctor prescribes them for u. You should also inform your doctor if you have previously experienced antibiotic-associated diarrhea so that he/she can take it into consideration when prescribing you medication.

Taking probiotics can also be helpful for you. It might beat logic that you are taking antibiotics so taking probiotics will undo the treatment the antibiotics have done. But this is not the case, probiotics add good bacteria to your digestive system to treat the side effects that have resulted from the antibiotics.

You should also watch what you eat. Some foods and dairy products naturally contain probiotics. It is recommended for you to take at least half a liter of natural yogurt per day. Never the less, some foods are culprits for stomach upsets. It’s always good to stay away from such foods when you are on antibiotic medication as they may flare diarrhea. Always follow the instructions written on your antibiotics so as not to hinder their effectiveness. Not all antibiotics are absorbed on an empty stomach thus some are recommended to take after meals.

How is antibiotic associated diarrhea treated and managed?
Treatment depends on the conditions of your symptoms. Mild antibiotic-associated diarrhea is likely to go away in a few days after you are through with your antibiotics. In a case of severe antibiotic-associated diarrhea that leads to developing Clostridium difficile infection, other forms of treatment may be approached.

Homeopathic treatment can be incorporated in treatment. It boosts your body’s immunity and it also opposes side effects of the antibiotics.  This kind of treatment addresses the pathological condition of your body as it creates an equilibrium in energy, immunity and body functions thus curing the root of the disorder. Common homeopathic treatment medicines for antibiotic-associated diarrhea include Carb V and Sulph.

Conventional or allopathic treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhea mainly constitutes of antibiotic prescriptions that your doctor may prescribe or recommend depending on the severity of your antibiotic-associated diarrhea after tests have been carried out.
In cases of extreme antibiotic-associated diarrhea that has led to a toxic megacolon or if your body is not responding to medical treatment, surgical measures can also be taken. Surgery has a high mortality rate of close to 40 percent therefore early and continuous surgical consultation is recommended for better outcomes.

Dietary and herbal treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhea is the most common form of treatment. It involves watching what you eat and taking homemade remedies to replenish the body with electrolytes lost due to dehydration. You should drink plenty of fluids and avoid spicy and fatty foods or foods with high fiber contents.

Taking precaution is far cheaper and safer than managing complications or getting treatment for extreme antibiotic-associated diarrhea. You should, therefore, invest more in taking precaution and preventive measures.

Anthrax

What is anthrax?

Anthrax is a disease caused by a bacteria Bacillus anthracis. It normally affects ruminant animals for example goats, cattle, sheep, and moose. If these ruminant animals are infected and human beings get in touch with them, the disease can be transmitted to them. Anthrax is not considered contagious since it does not spread from one person to another.

An anthrax bacterium exists in an active form referred to as spores. Inactive ones live in soil and are carried in on the skin of animals. The spores live for a long time due to the hard coating of the animals.

Anthrax spores enter human body when you touch or inhale in anthrax spores. Once in the human body, it changes into an active form. It multiplies and causes very serious illness.

What causes Anthrax?

You can catch anthrax either directly or indirectly inhaling, being in touch or ingesting the bacteria Bacillus anthracis. This bacterium is found in ruminant animals. You can also come into contact with anthrax through biological weapons.

If you touch domestic or wild animal’s blood that is affected by anthrax, you can get the disease. Moreover, you can get anthrax if you eat undercooked infected meat.

Signs and symptoms of Anthrax

The signs  of human being depend on the means of contact.

Skin contact. When your skin gets into contact with an infected animal, you can get small, raised sore that is itchy. This sore normally appears like an insect bite. It then grows into a blister. It also does not cause any pain. After one to five days, the symptoms will develop.

Ingestion of Bacillus anthracis.

The symptoms of this kind of anthrax develop within a week after exposure. These signs include vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, neck swelling, and bloody diarrhea.

Inhalation

if you inhale anthrax, the signs will also develop within a week. They include difficulty in breathing, sore throat, cold symptoms, fever, cough, feeling fatigue, nausea, chills and shaking.

Diagnosis of Anthrax

For your doctor to diagnose anthrax, he will take your history to determine the exposure and give crucial diagnostic examinations. If you contracted anthrax through inhalation, your doctor will carry out chest X-rays or CT scan. These tests will affirm if you have mediastinal widening and pleural effusion, therefore, confirming you have inhalation anthrax. Skin testing.: Your the doctor will take a suspicious lesion on your skin that will be examined for signs of cutaneous anthrax. Anthrax bacteria  i.e bacillus anthracis can also be detected in your system using a blood sample. Your stool may also be examined for gastrointestinal anthrax (ingestion of anthrax bacteria). Anthrax meningitis may be tested by inserting a needle in your spinal canal and withdrawing a small amount of fluid. This test will confirm whether you have this kind of anthrax. Your doctor might also measure the antibodies in your system or the level of toxins to determine whether you have anthrax.

Complications OF Anthrax

The only major complication for anthrax is soreness of the membranes around the brain and backbone. This leads to too much bleeding hence causing death. This condition is also referred to as hemorrhagic meningitis.

Risk factors of Anthrax

People who are at a higher risk of getting anthrax include those who work in the laboratory. This is because they are exposed to the bacterium causing anthrax when performing tests on patients. People who work with livestock as a veterinarian can also easily catch the disease. Individuals who handle animal skin such as those who work in slaughterhouses are also at a  risk. If you have a pet that is ruminant for example rabbit or a horse and it is infected you can also easily be infected with the disease. Another group of people who are at a risk is the once who handle or dress game animals such as deer. The military that is deployed in areas with high risk of anthrax can easily contract it.

Treatment and management of Anthrax

The regular treatment for anthrax is a two-month course of an antibiotic. This antibiotic may either be ciprofloxacin or doxycycline. You can either take one antibiotic or both of them depending on how you are infected with the disease, age or your health. The treatment will be more helpful if started as soon as the diagnosis.

Advanced inhalation anthrax may not respond to the above-mentioned antibiotics. At this stage, the bacteria have developed and have produced more toxins and therefore the drugs cannot eliminate. Anti-toxin therapy has been invented. This therapy eliminates the toxin. Your doctor may surgically remove the infected tissue. This is only done for the cases of injection anthrax.

The homeopathy treatment for anthrax is done by a number of medicines. Many homeopaths prefer anthracinum. Other medicines may include pyroginum, crot-h, and echinacea.

Precautions and prevention of Anthrax

You are recommended to use antibiotics to curb infection if you are exposed to the spores. Some of these antibiotics that you can use include ciprofloxacin, doxycycline.

There is anthrax vaccine meant for humans. This vaccine can cause side effects such as soreness at the place that you were injected or more severe allergic reactions. It does not have live bacteria, therefore, it can't lead to infection. It is important to note that the vaccine is not intended for the public, it is for military personnel and those at a higher risk for infection.

You can also avoid it by avoiding infected animals. If you are in an environment where anthrax is common and the animals are not regularly vaccinated, avoid contact with the herd or animal skin. In addition, avoid meat that has not been appropriately cooked.

Handle dead animal with precaution. If you work in a company that deals with wool, fur or hide, be more careful because the virus may be active.

Anoxia

What is anoxia?
Anoxia is a disease resulting from decreased oxygen supply to your brain. It is a consequence of hypoxia. If your body suffers from lack of oxygen, you develop an anoxic- hypoxic injury. Hypoxia is caused by conditions such as insufficient oxygen in areas of high altitude, poisoning from carbon monoxide, chocking and near drowning, asthma, pneumonia and other conditions that cause difficulties in breathing. Excessive loss of blood could also lead to hypoxia.

Your brain, kidneys, heart and other bodily tissues may stop functioning completely if hypoxia turns into anoxia.  Anoxia is especially detrimental to your brain. If you go for a short period, even of five minutes without oxygen getting to your brain, your brain cell may die and other functions of your brain may be stopped or interfered with. If it is severe it may even lead to death.

There are different types of anoxia namely:
Anemic anoxia which is caused by the blood not carrying sufficient oxygen around your body organs for proper functioning. Lack of hemoglobin which is responsible for delivery of oxygen to your blood vessels and other body organs leads to the development of anemic anoxia.

Toxic anoxia which is a result of inhalation of toxic environmental fumes. This will hinder blood from effective transportation of oxygen to your body organs. The most common cause of toxic anoxia is carbon monoxide poisoning.

Stagnant anoxia, commonly referred to as hypoxic-ischemic injury, is caused by blood not reaching your brain and other body parts requiring its presence. It is mostly caused by diseases of the heart.
Anoxic anoxia is another type of anoxia. This is as a result of insufficient energy in your body. This leads to your bloodstream not having enough oxygen to transport throughout the body. Being in high attitudes increases your chances of getting this disease.

What causes anoxia?
Different conditions cause the development of anoxia. They include;
Having insufficient oxygen reaching the brain, being in high altitude areas, the exertion of the body, toxic poisoning, mountain climbing, hiking, snowboarding, and skiing. If your lungs are not functioning properly due to either of the following factors, you may also develop this disorder. They include; breathing difficulties resulting from pneumonia and asthma, abuse of drugs, suffocation, near drowning and chocking.

What are the common signs and symptoms of Anoxia?

The signs and symptoms of anoxia are not so obvious in the beginning. Before any symptoms can be seen, your brain may go up to a few minutes without oxygen. They may even take as long as a few days or even weeks to surface.

The signs that will appear at the initial stage include; temporary memory loss, personality and mood changes, slurred words and speech, sluggishness. You may also feel dizzy, inexplicable headaches, loss of body balance, and loss of concentration. You may also experience other symptoms such as hallucinations, seizures, and constant fainting. If you are experiencing such symptoms, you should seek immediate medical attention.

How is anoxia diagnosed?
The diagnosis and prognosis of anoxia are done to investigate if the symptoms you have are indeed for anoxia. Your doctor may decide to perform blood tests, tests on the nervous system or even some blood tests and X-rays. Some common tests usually used to determine if the symptoms elicited are of anoxia. They include; an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging.) to determine the reaction of your brain to different activities. You may also need to take a CT scan for a general view of your brain. An EEG (electroencephalogram ) will also be done to monitor your brain’s electrical activity. You may also need to take a blood and gas test to indicate the levels of hemoglobin and blood oxygen. You may be given other brain tests that will help your physician see how your brain reacts to the environment.

How is anoxia treated and managed?

The treatment for anoxia will depend on the period you have been ailing from the disease and for how long your brain has not been getting enough oxygen supply. Some mental and physical body functions may stop if you lack oxygen in the brain even for a few minutes. The treatment for this is your doctor trying to regulate your blood oxygen levels. You may need to have CPR performed or even be placed on a ventilator.

Seizures will be treated to avoid delay of your recovery in the long run. This is a complication that results from anoxia. It is better treated to avoid further complications later in life or worsening of the disease.

In the case that your anoxia is as a result of a heart attack, you will be treated for it to restore oxygen supply to the brain. You will need these forms of treatment to avoid prolonged damage to your brain or other body organs requiring oxygen to function properly. They include - Physical therapy which helps you in the restoration of your walking ability and general body control. You may also go for speech therapy to correct your slurred speech and swallowing ability. Psychotherapy is a very vital part of the treatment combined with occupational therapy as they will help you to adjust and deal with any major changes you may experience as a result of this disease. Recreational therapy will aid you in the promotion of your health and personal well being in the form of art and craft, music and dance or even community activities.

In addition to that, homeopathic treatment is very useful. It will give you exceptional results in the improvement of body tissues oxygenation. You will be treated holistically and constitutionally. You will get a balance in energy levels, improvement in immunity and body functions. The root of the disorder will be dealt with thus giving you as a person relief from complications and symptoms caused by anoxia.

Another treatment for anoxia is acupuncture and acupressure which focuses on balancing the body organs and their functions. It will ensure your blood flows in a normal manner thus restoring mental and physical health. Needles will be connected to structures that are neutral thus stimulating your whole nervous system.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

What is ankylosing spondylitis?
This is a type of persistent inflammation of the sacroiliac joints and the spinal cord. These joints are normally found in the lower part of your back. This is where the bone above the tailbone and the iliac bone intersect. The inflammation of these bones causes intense pain and stiffness in the spinal cord and the areas surrounding it. This includes the lower and middle back, the neck and buttocks. Gradual inflammation can cause the fusion of the vertebrae and eventual immobility of the spine thus leading to Ankylosing spondylitis.

This is also a systemic disease which can affect body tissues. It can lead to the tenderness of other joints and manifest itself as arthritis. It can also affect other body organs like the heart, eyes, mouth among others. It is related to other forms of arthritis which lead to inflammation of the spine and joints. Ankylosing spondylitis is a rheumatic disease as it mainly affects muscles and joints in your body.

It is most common in men than women. If you are a woman, the joints located further from the spine are affected often in comparison to men. This disease will affect people in all age groups even children. If your child is affected, then it will be referred to as juvenile ankylosing spondylitis. The onset stages of this disease are the twenties and thirties. This disease is also known as Bechterew’s disease or by abbreviation, AS.

What are signs and symptoms of Ankylosing spondylitis
If you show the following signs and symptoms, you might need to get checked for ankylosing spondylitis. If your neck or feels pain and is stiff, or if you experience pain in your lower back, hips, and buttocks for a period longer than three months, you may be suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. It will usually begin around your sacroiliac joints at the point of intersection of your lower spine and the pelvic bone of the lower back.

If you have an overgrowth of your bones, you may develop an unusual unification of bones referred to a bony fusion. This may interfere with your ability to perform daily tasks and routines as it will affect mainly your neck, hips, and backbones. If the unification of the bones affects the breastbone or the ribs, it will cause you difficulties in attempts to take deep breaths.

You may also experience ligament and tendons pain. These tendons and ligaments are attached to bones. Inflammation of these will cause you to feel pain in the area you use to step on the ground. (the area behind your heel)  and at the rear of your ankles.
You may also experience high fever, fatigue and general body sluggishness, redness and pain in the eyes, loss of appetite and rarely, heart and lung problems. You may also develop anemia, low iron and progressive loss of body weight.

What causes ankylosing spondylitis?
There is no known cause of ankylosing spondylitis yet. However, it tends to be running in families. This means that it could be genetically transferred. Therefore, if anyone in your family has the disorder, you are also likely to develop the disease in comparison with someone whose family does not have this history.

How is Ankylosing spondylitis diagnosed?
You may see a rheumatologist for diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis. This is a doctor who specializes in arthritis-related diseases. You will have to undergo a comprehensive physical examination as the doctor asks you about your signs and symptoms and your medical history.

A spine or joint X-ray will be required to help establish if there is any attrition. If you are in the early stages of this disease, your tests may not show the erosion. An erythrocyte test might be conducted to test the presence of tenderness in the affected areas. An HLA-B test will be done only to confirm if you have a gene that produces the protein that may lead to the development of ankylosing spondylitis.

What are the risk factors of Ankylosing spondylitis?
Among the factors that may increase your risk of developing this disease is; being in the age bracket of twenty to forty years. If you are a man, this also places you in danger of developing this disease as it occurs more in men than women. If you have had a case of ankylosing spondylitis in your family, your chances of getting the disease are also increased.

What are the precaution and prevention measures of Ankylosing spondylitis
To take precaution against something especially a disease is better than treating and curing it. Thus, the prevention measures you may employ for this disease include; preventing yourself from being disabled by maintaining body activeness. You can also focus on healthy eating and maintenance of standard body mass.

How is Ankylosing spondylitis treated?
As there is no known cure for this disease, the treatment you receive if basically for management of pain and other symptoms you may be having.

The anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen and ibuprofen are the commonest prescriptions you will be given to help In the management of your symptoms although if they do not give you enough relief from pain, you will be given stronger pain medication.

You are encouraged to be involved in daily exercise activities as they aid you in maintaining elasticity and motion. A prescription of physical therapy may come in handy in this case. You should practice good posture since it helps in the prevention of spine deformity that could come later in life.

Applying hot or cold compresses to the joints affected by stiffness reduces pain and swelling respectfully. If the ankylosing spondylitis is severe, correctional surgery may be done on the affected areas of the spine or joints. This happens mostly in cases of bone infusion or severe deformity.

Homeopathy comes in handy in the management of this disease as it assists in controlling it through the administration of medication. Acupuncture is also another known treatment for this disease as it helps in pain reduction in some people. It will be performed by a trained and experienced physician through disposable and sterilized needles. Psychotherapy is recommended as it will help you through use of conversations by words. This helps you to deal with problems effectively with the aim of finding solutions to them. It also helps you deal with trauma experienced through the management of the disease.

Angina

What is angina?

Angina is discomfort, tightness or chest pain that is a result of the decreased supply to the muscles surrounding the heart. (cardio-vascular muscles.). though it is not a disease, it is a symptom of coronary artery disease which is the commonest disease of the heart. Narrower coronary arteries result in plaque upsurge (atherosclerosis) due to insufficient oxygen-rich.

If you have narrow arteries, they cause you pain, lead to coronary disease of the heart, cardiac arrest and consequently even death. Angina has different ways of manifesting itself, it could be pain and discomfort in the chest, or an angina attack lasting for about 15 minutes. It is usually categorized into variant, stable and unstable angina.

Types of Angina

There are different types of angina depending on the causes. They are:

Chronic angina, which is a heart attack caused if you are working harder than usual. It is predictable as it has a regular pattern that is progressive over the years. It is usually relieved if you take medication and adequate rest.

Unstable angina, on the other hand, is unpredictable as it follows no regular pattern. Even when you are at rest, it could still attack you. It could be an indicator that you will suffer a heart attack in future or even within hours or weeks.

The other types of angina are known as microvascular angina and variant which rarely occur. They can happen even when you are resting even if you have no known coronary artery disorder. It is caused by anomalous contraction of the blood vessels causing the reduced flow of blood to your heart. Medication can be used to relieve you of the symptoms.

What causes angina?

Angina is caused by many factors. They include the following:

If you have had an existing coronary artery disease may cause angina. This results from cholesterol build-up on arterial walls forming hard plaques narrowing the artery. This makes blood supply to the heart insufficient affecting the normal functions of the heart.

If you are a smoker, this may also lead to the development of the coronary heart disease. In addition to this, high cholesterol and fat levels in the blood will cause plaques to form and they will cause damage to your arteries. The plaques lead to thinning of the arteries or complete blockage from blood clots in the artery.

Angina attacks result from insufficient oxygenated blood supply to the heart.  They are mostly triggered by too much physical work since the heart will be deprived of oxygen if you exert too much energy. If you are going through emotional stress that is intense or you consume a heavy meal. If you are fond of smoking or you are exposed to intense temperatures, this may cause an angina attack.

Partial or complete blockage of any of your arteries may cause blood clots which in turn lead to an angina attack. This is normally the unstable or unpredictable angina. If you get blood clots that are large in size, it may cause you a heart attack.

If your artery experiences contractions, it may be narrowed or tightened resulting in reduced blood supply to your heart. Exposure to drug use, extreme cold and stress may be the cause development of variant angina.

What are the signs and symptoms of Angina?

If you experience these signs and symptoms, you may be suffering from angina. They include;
Constrictions, pressure, heaviness and squeezing with a burning sensation starting behind the breast stone. This pain will extend to your other body parts like teeth, throat, back, neck or even jaw.
You may also experience increased sweating, general body sluggishness, increased levels of heartburn and even indigestion. Shortness of breath, cramping and nausea may also be experienced.  Stable angina will feel like indigestion while unpredictable angina will hit you even during rest, lasts longer and even worsens over time.

What are the risk factors associated with Angina

If you suffer from coronary heart disease, you are at increased risk of angina. These factors also raise your risk of getting angina. They include the following:

If you have unhealthy cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, a tendency of smoking regularly, obesity and diabetes, your chances of getting angina are very high. You may also develop angina if you are a man or woman aged 45 and 55 respectively. Furthermore, if you have a history of heart disease or your family has had continuous cases of heart disease, it increases your risk of developing the disease (angina).

What are the prevention and precaution measures for angina

By adjusting your lifestyle, and treating conditions related to angina, you reduce the risk posed to you, delay and prevent angina. Giving up smoking, keeping fit and healthy and eating healthy food also reduces and prevents you from developing angina. Proper treatment for high fat and cholesterol levels and high blood pressure also helps prevent the development of this disease.

How is Angina diagnosed?

If you have the signs of having chest pains, you will undergo a physical exam together with an oral one to help your doctor establish if you are suffering from angina or not. Details of your medical and family health will also be required. You may need to undergo the following tests to determine the cause of your signs and symptoms.

A stress test where the reading of the blood pressure test kit will show increased physical activity, an electrocardiogram which will be recording your hearts electrical activity and can help identify if your heart has been receiving insufficient oxygen amounts. A blood test shows the levels of fats and sugar in your blood while coronary angiography and a chest X-ray will help in seeing your internal chest structures.

How is Angina treated and managed?

The main aim of angina medication is to reduce symptoms, prevent risks of getting a cardiac arrest and to lower chest pain and constriction. Mostly you will be given prescription medicine, have to change your lifestyle or undergo surgical procedures.

For treatment to be effective, you may have to make the following lifestyle adjustments, you may have to cut down your eating habits, smoking habits, control your weight, checking your cholesterol levels regularly, avoiding stress, resting and avoiding strenuous activities and eating lean meat and fruits regularly.

Other treatment methods include; homeopathy which mainly includes the prescription of medicine for the reduction of blood pressure and blood cholesterol and fat levels. Acupressure and acupuncture treatment includes insertion of needles on your skin’s pressure points to help reduce the pressure on them. Psychotherapy and hypnotherapy is recommended for you if you suffer from angina. This will help you relax and deal with emotional stress.

Angelman syndrome

What is Angelman syndrome? +
This is a genetic disorder that will cause developmental disabilities, seizures and problems with the nervous and neurological system. If you are suffering from this disorder, you will exhibit a happy and excitable personality usually laughing and smiling repeatedly. The delayed developmental stages are between six and twelve months. The initial signs you will see if your child suffers from this disease are seizure beginning from around the age of two and three years of age. There is no cure for this disease though it is managed through treatment and medication to enable those suffering to lead a normal life.

What are the signs and symptoms of Angelman syndrome?
If your child is suffering from Angelman syndrome, you will notice the following signs and symptoms in them. Delays in development especially no crawling or trying to speak between the ages of six and 12 months. They may also lack intellectual ability, have difficulties walking, moving or balancing. They may also have signs of regular smiling and laughing accompanied by a very happy and excitable personality. Other symptoms you will notice in a person suffering from Angelman syndromes are; seizures at the ages of two and three years, jerky movements, a head that is small in size and is flattened at the back. You will notice them thrusting their tongues, light-colored hair, eyes and skin, they will also have unusual flapping of the hands and uplifted arms when walking.

What are the causes of Angelman syndrome?

Angelman syndrome is caused by different factors namely; it is mainly as a result of a genetic disorder on the genes found in chromosome15 known as the ubiquitin protein ligase gene.
When a child is born, they receive gene pairs from both parents. One half from the mother and another half from the father. Angelman syndrome is as a result of a missing gene from the mother. This gene is usually active in the brain. It could also be as a result of missing copies of genes from the father though it is a rare case.

Some complications resulting from Angelman disease.
This disease may cause complications to you if you are suffering from it. Infants with this disease will have problems with suckling and swallowing. This may result in feeding difficulties for both you and your child. A doctor may advise substitution of suckling with an infant feeding formula. This is with the aim of helping your baby to maintain weight development. A child with Angelman syndrome will be highly hyperactive. They lose concentration quickly as their attention span and concentration levels are very short. You will also notice your child develop a tendency of keeping their toys or hand in the mouth. It decreases as your child grows older. If you suffer from Angelman syndrome, you may experience inconsistency in sleep developing a sleep-wake, wake-sleep pattern. This, however, decreases with age put together with cognitive behavior therapy and medication.
Children who are older in age may experience large appetites that could generate development of Angelman syndrome. If you or someone you know is suffering from Angelman syndrome, you may develop an anomalous side to side curving of your spine over time.

How can you prevent Angelman syndrome?
Since this defect is caused by the transfer of defective genes from parents to children, if you have a child suffering from Angelman syndrome or you have a family history of Angelman syndrome, you should see your physician or a genetic specialist to help you in case you plan to have more children in future.

Diagnosis and prognosis of Angelman syndrome.
How is this defect diagnosed, you wonder?
Your child’s physician may suppose your child is suffering from Angelman syndrome if a developmental delay is accompanied by other signs of the disease like having imbalance, flat back side of the head or even having a small sized head.
Blood samples from your child may be needed for a genetic test to help in confirming the diagnosis. These tests will usually review the genetic patterns of the parental DNA. It is usually used in the viewing of three out of the four known causes of Angelman syndrome.  Your child may also undergo a test to show if some parts of their chromosomes could be missing.
A test to indicate if your child’s genes are active but mutated may also be needed. This test is usually to check if there is a mutated maternal gene.

How is Angelman syndrome treated and managed?
Angelman syndrome has no cure but is managed through medication which is focused on developmental issues. The measures used for the treatment of this involves; use of physical therapy for management of walking problems. Communication therapy which is inclusive of picture communication and sign languages. Behavior therapy helps in overcoming hyperactiveness and concentration to help in development.

Homeopathy is a natural method of treatment which treats a person holistically. It is used to balance the energy levels and perk up your body’s immunity. Another form of treatment for this disease is the acupuncture and acupressure method of treatment. It involves influencing your nervous system through control and connection of neurophysiological relations amid body systems via direction of bio-electrical impulses to the nerve fibers. The spinal cord, heart, and brain are also influenced by this treatment method.

If you or your child is suffering from this Angelman syndrome, psychotherapy may help you or your child in overcoming loss of concentration and hyperactivity which could boost the developmental progress. The conventional or allopathic treatment involves prescription of anti-seizure medication. In addition to this, the use of dietary and herbal treatment is a vital method of treatment as it helps with improved health. A high- fat diet referred to as the Ketogenic diet helps in careful regulation of carbohydrate, and proteins you consume if you suffer from Angelman syndrome.
Another form of treatment involves support for parents whose children suffer from Angelman syndrome. This is to help them get through the emotional and physical strain experienced in caring for these children. It is in form of respite care, family, and genetic counseling.

Support for parents of children with Angelman syndrome includes:
•    support organizations, such as the Australian Angelman Syndrome Association
•    genetic counselling
•    family therapy
•    respite care.

Anemia

What is Anemia
This is a condition that develops when your blood has a lower than normal red blood cell (RBC) count, less than 13.5 gram/100ml in men and 12.0 gram/100ml in women, resulting from low levels of hemoglobin. This causes weakness, dizziness, and shortness of breath. It is treatable once the underlying cause is identified.

Causes of anemia
Anemia is caused by three major conditions namely; less production of erythrocytes, the destruction of these erythrocytes at a higher rate, and excessive loss of blood. Megaloblastic is one type of faulty red cell production. The condition of anemia may be mild and easily treatable or severe and require immediate intervention.

Different types of anemia have their causes. Some include;
Iron deficiency anemia. It’s the most common type worldwide caused by a shortage of iron in your body. With inadequate iron, your body can't produce enough hemoglobin for red blood cells. Vitamin deficiency anemia, your body needs folate and vitamin B-12 to produce enough healthy red blood cells. A decrease in red blood cells can be due to having a diet lacking in the above named nutrients and other key nutrients. Anemia of chronic disease, certain diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, kidney disease and other chronic diseases can interfere with the production of red blood cells resulting in the condition. Aplastic anemia. If your body does not manufacture sufficient erythrocytes, you can develop this uncommon chronic type of anemia. Causes of this anemia include infections, certain medicines, autoimmune diseases and exposure to toxic chemicals. Anemia associated with bone marrow disease. Some diseases like leukemia may lead to anemia through interference with your body’s blood production. The effects of these type of cancer vary from mild to life-threatening.
Hemolytic anemia. If your red blood cells get destroyed more rapidly than they get replaced, you may get this type of anemia. Certain blood diseases increase red blood cell destruction. This disease can be inherited or developed in later years. Sickle cell anemia. This is a serious inherited hemolytic anemia. A defective form of hemoglobin that forces destruction of red blood cells through sickle cell disease is the cause of this disease. These irregular blood cells die prematurely, resulting in a chronic shortage of red blood cells.

Signs and symptoms of anemia
You may have a range of symptoms showing that you may be suffering from anemia. They could be mild, minimal, severe, and debilitating. They are potentially even life-threatening depending on the type of anemia. It may be difficult to carry out normal, everyday activities. The illness can affect many systems in the body and produce a variety of symptoms that affect health including fatigue, pale skin, shortness of breath, hair loss, chest pain, dizziness, cognitive problems, cold hands and feet and also headaches.

Complications of anemia
Left untreated, anemia can cause severe fatigue, pregnancy complications, heart problems, rapid or irregular heartbeats which can lead to an enlarged heart, heart failure or death

Risk factors of anemia
Anyone can develop the disorder. Menstruating women are most likely to suffer from it due to monthly loss. It may also occur during pregnancy if nutrient levels get too low. More Blood is produced if you are pregnant  though plasma will inflate quicker than erythrocytes are able to regenerate. This results in insufficient quantities.
Bleeding due to injury or surgery are potential causes. Medical issues like chronic infections and diseases such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney and liver diseases, thyroid, heart failure, inflammatory bowel disease, and HIV/AIDS may also play a role.
If you are a teenager, you will experience a growth spurt which may put you at risk of developing the disease. Extremely low iron levels may place you at a higher risk of getting infections from injuries especially if you are a teenager. A doctor may recommend avoiding contact sports.
Substances that inhibit mineral absorption like supplements and medication, vitamin deficiency and also low iron intake may also contribute to a person developing the disorder.

Diagnosis of anemia

Anemia can be diagnosed either by a physical exam –your doctor may listen to your heart and your breathing and also examine you for other symptoms of the illness or through a Complete blood count (CBC) – A CBC is used to count the number of blood cells in a sample of your blood.

Precautions and prevention of anemia
Many types of anemia can't be prevented but iron and vitamin deficiency anemias can be avoided by having diets that include a variety of vitamins and nutrients, includingIron –found indark green leafy vegetables and dried fruit, folate–found in fruits and enriched grain products, vitamin B-12 –found in dairy products and fortified cereal products, vitamin C –found in citrus fruitsand tomatoes.
If you're concerned about getting enough vitamins from the food you eat or if you have a family history of an inherited anemia, ask your doctor whether a multivitamin may be right for you and talk to your genetic counselor about your risk and what risks you may pass on to your children.

Treatment of anemia

Homeopathic Treatment of Anemia
Homeopathy medication will try to kindle the healthy part of your bone marrow to perk up cell production. This may help you reduce the number of blood transfusions. It helps by improving general vitality and well-being to help you fight infections.

Acupuncture and Acupressure Treatment of Anemia
This helps in strengthening the blood. Needles are inserted at your meridians to help increase the flow of iron to the spleen, where blood is produced, and to the stomach. Needles are also inserted at other meridians that improve the flow of iron to the liver, which stores blood and maintains a properly balanced flow of blood throughout the body.

Allopathic Treatment of Anemia
This treatment ranges from simple dietary changes and vitamin supplements to hormone treatments. It involves eating foods rich invitamins and nutrients.

Surgical Treatment of Anemia
If you have serious or life-threatening bleeding, you may need surgery. For example, you may need surgery to control ongoing bleeding due to a stomach ulcer or colon cancer. If your body is destroying red blood cells at a high rate, you may need to have your spleen removed. The spleen is an organ that removes worn-out red blood cells from the body.

As much as there may be a treatment for this illness, prevention is always better than cure. Thus it is highly recommended for you to take precautions in ensuring that your body gets the required nutrients to ensure continuous production of red blood cells.

Anaphylaxis

What is Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction to foods, insect stings, medications or substances that typically affects more than one part of the body at the same time.
If you are allergic to a substance, your body reacts to it by releasing chemicals that cause allergy symptoms. Typically, the symptoms occur in one part of the body but some people are susceptible to a much more serious anaphylactic reaction. This condition requires immediate medical attention, including a prompt injection of epinephrine. If not treated properly it can be fatal.

Risk factors for anaphylaxis
Certain people are more at risk of anaphylaxis. If your family has had a history of anaphylaxis, and you have suffered from allergies or asthma in the past, you are at a higher risk. And, if you’ve experienced anaphylaxis your risk of having another anaphylactic reaction is increased.

Signs and symptoms of Anaphylaxis
The symptoms start within 5 to 30 minutes of coming into contact with the allergen to which you are allergic but in some cases, it takes more than an hour for you to notice anaphylactic symptoms.
If you suffer from anaphylaxis, you may experience red rashes with welts that are usually itchy, a swollen throat that makes it hard for swallowing or swollen areas of the body, wheezing, passing out, chest tightness and at times pain, you may also have trouble breathing, persistent coughs, a hoarse voice, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping, paleness to your face and body and also a feeling of impending doom.

Diagnosis and prognosis of Anaphylaxis
To diagnose anaphylaxis or to determine whether preceding symptoms were anaphylaxis related, your allergist will conduct a thorough investigation of all potential causes. Your allergist will ask for specific details regarding all past allergic reactions. Proper and correct diagnosis and management of these allergic reactions are very vital. An allergy specialist is specially trained and is usually experienced in diagnosing the problem hence he/ she will assist you in coming up with a future protective and preventive plan.

What are some complications associated with Anaphylaxis?
You will experience the allergic reactions related to anaphylaxis on different parts of your body. They may appear on your skin, in the form of hives or swelling. You may have difficulties in breathing which is life-threatening, you may experience asthmatic attacks due to swelling of the part of the air passage on the upper part. You may develop problems with your digestive system leading to severe diarrhea or even vomiting. It becomes a medical emergency once it affects more than just the skin. These symptoms and signs will cause you discomfort in your day to day activities.

What are some precautions and preventive measures put in place to avoid Anaphylaxis?
As is common knowledge, preventing something is better than curing it. Anaphylaxis is no different when considering this fact. You can employ these measures to protect yourself against this disease. The best method for you and your child to avoid anaphylaxis is avoiding contact with allergens. You should make them aware of their allergies during the appropriate age using the most suitable method. You should ensure your child is always having an auto-injector in case of an emergency.
For each type of allergy, here are some preventive measures you can employ.

You should ensure that all foods in your household are well labeled to avoid confusion and check the ingredients to be sure no allergic substance is present. If it is an insect allergy, you or your child should don on closed shoes and repellent clothes that are not loosely fitting to avoid trapping insects in them. This will help you to protect yourself in an outdoor excursion. If you are allergic to medicine, you should inform your doctor about your allergic reactions to avoid their prescription. You should know the names of the drugs you or your child are allergic to. In the case that your child is allergic to latex, you should alert your family physician about it and request for close monitoring of their medical chart to show their allergy history. You should be keen to remind the medical practitioners in case your child needs to undergo medical procedures. It is highly recommended to enlighten everyone you relate with about your child’s allergy or your own allergy. They can help you and your child to avoid allergens and can be of importance in case of an anaphylaxis attack.

How is Anaphylaxis treated and managed?
Treatment and management of anaphylaxis are normally through prescription medicine in most cases. However, the best way in which to manage your allergic reactions is to be ready all the time and avoid all allergens that may result in an allergic reaction. You should always carry your adrenaline auto-injectors and your other antihistamine medication. You will need to administer the single dose auto-injector to your thigh in case you get an anaphylactic emergency.

For school going children, you will need to fill out an action plan for anaphylaxis and keep it in the school, this helps your child to be catered for in case of an anaphylactic emergency at school. Your family and friends also need to be aware of how to use the auto-injector in case your child encounters an allergic reaction in your absence.

You may also use Homeopathic Treatment as support in anaphylaxis. This will help you to do away with panic attacks brought about by being afraid of dying in case you experience an emergency anaphylactic reaction. You may have a prescription for Aconitum, Arnica Montana or other homeopathic medication to help reduce fast swelling of the skin as a result of an insect sting or bite. This is not replacement of conventional emergency treatment. The main method of treatment that may be used in the treatment and management of Anaphylaxis is the allopathic or conventional method. This mostly involves use of prescription medicines to reduce the effects of the anaphylactic reaction. Some of the medication administered include; increased oxygen to help in compensation for the difficult breathing in case of an asthma attack, you could also need an intravenous administration of anti-allergens to reduce the anaphylactic reaction. You may also have to ingest medicine like prednisone, epinephrine, and antihistamines orally. These help in reducing the effects of the anaphylactic reaction.

As you age, the skin around your anus becomes prone to dryness which can cause continuous and intense itching.

If you wash this area excessively and with soaps that are harsh, wiping with toilet paper can cause you aggravated anal itching. If you also fail to rinse soap completely, it may also lead to increased irritation and anal itching. If you have been using laxatives frequently, they can lead to chronic diarrhea which could consequently lead to itching and irritation.

What are the signs and symptoms of Anal Itching?
The most obvious symptom you will show is having irritation around the anus accompanied by a strong desire to scratch. When you sit, scratch or have moisture in the anal area, the intensity of the irritation increases.

What is an anal fissure?
When the inner lining of your anus has sustained a crack or a tear, it’s known as anal fissure. Very often this cut causes severe pain and discomfort during a bowel movement, followed by bleeding. Sometimes the cut can be sufficiently deep as to reveal your muscle tissues.
