Ataxia

What is Ataxia
Ataxia has been reported to be a medical condition which is characterized by a lack of muscle coordination during voluntary movements. The lack of muscle coordination is most often than not noticeable in cases where the patients make voluntary movements such as walking or picking up of objects. Ataxia has been recognized as a brain disease which specifically affects the cerebellum. However, ataxia has been reported to be manifested in a number of ways including the Friedreich’s ataxia and spinocerebellar ataxia type 6. Medically, Ataxia telangiectasia has been established to be more less than common.

Symptoms of Ataxia
Ataxia as a medical condition which causes loss of coordination when performing voluntary tasks like movement has been reported to be particular to the cerebellum in the brain, the medical condition however presents some symptoms which have been reported to be characteristic of its incidence, such medically established symptoms include; Poor or loss of coordination; Less apparent facial expression in affected persons, imbalance and noticeable instability in gait of the affected person. Also, persons with this medical condition have been reported to be prone to stumbling when walking. Additionally, persons suffering from Ataxia exhibit difficulty in eating, writing or buttoning a shirt with noticeable change in speech patterns. Other symptoms exhibited by the medical condition include hearing problems, limited range of eye movements, swallowing difficulty, and general problems with balance.

Causes of Ataxia
Ataxia, a medical condition which is characterized by a lack of muscle coordination when performing voluntary movements has been reported to be caused by some of the following incidents; Head trauma, Stroke, Multiple sclerosis (MS), Transient ischemic attack (TIA), Toxic reaction, Paraneoplastic syndromes, Chicken pox, Cerebral palsy.
